Historic Park Develops More

On October 5, 2006, the conversion of the Elk Run Dig Site to a Historic Park started with the delivery of top soil to backfill the foundation and dig site.


On October 16, 2006, the Historic Church Park Site was raked to remove debris, seeded, and covered with hay to protect the site during the upcoming winter season.

Warrenton Heritage Day Festivities

The two posters were displayed along with an array of artifacts recovered during the seven year archaeological effort at the Warrenton Heritage Day Festivities on 30 September.
Seven-Year Archaeological Effort


The seven-year archaeological effort from 1999-2006 and artist rendering of the future Elk Run Historic Park were reflected in two 24 x 36 inch Posters created by Sarah Gulick in September 2006.

The two posters were displayed along with an array of Artifacts recovered during the seven-year archaeological effort at the Warrenton Heritage Day Festivities on September 30, 2006.
Volunteers Work Hard
April 21, 2006

Field workers take photos through a mapping grid used to help record detailed measured drawings of the church foundation. Another worker records excavation unit wall information as part of the final documentation of the site.

2005 Artifacts are Cleaned

During February and March 2006, artifacts recovered from the 2005 excavations were systematically cleaned, processed and grouped into common categories (stoneware fragments, arrow heads, glass, nails, etc.).

Key 2006 Goals

Key 2006 goals include completion of last year goals: (1) finishing Foundation Units’ Archaeological Measurements, (2) completing layout of new Archaeological Interpretative Sign, (3) determining the best all-weather enclosure design for Unit #14, and (4) begin converting the “dig site” into a Historic Park.
