On December 17, 2003, Mr. Robert Flournoy, a key person in saving the Elk Run Church Site, died.

From the last weekend in June until November 2003 work focused on digging and screening material from the new Interior Excavation Units #42 through #46, and further excavation work was done on Unit #14.
In late November 2003, new Interior Excavation Units #47 through #50 were laid out for further archaeological work in 2004.

In late October 2003, material around and underneath the large Elm tree was removed and screened and work was completed in severing its main root system. The tree trunk was turned over for removal in segments.
On May 8, 2003, work began to open the interior excavation units for the 2003 Dig. However, the continuing rainy season during the rest of May and June resulted in further work being postponed until June 28, 2003.

On May 17, 2003, an Elk Run Church Artifact exhibit using this Small Display Case was held for the public during the annual Nokesville Day.

During February and April 2003, artifacts recovered from the 2002 excavations were systematically cleaned, processed and grouped into common categories (Rhenish stoneware, clothing items, glass, nails, etc.).
